Wake up and smell the coffee

Wake up and smell the coffee

21 May 2018

Now, we know you love the taste, but have you ever wondered how our liquid gold comes to be?

We take good coffee seriously, so seriously that we even source and roast our own beans. Our particular blend of Arabica beans is sourced from South America, Africa and Asia and roasted weekly in our Dubbo roastery  to ensure freshness. We roast on the darker side to really develop our flavours and this also helps with our coffees stability in milks like soy (who wants a curdled coffee)!

Coffee… what is it good for? Absolutely everything!

Coffee… what is it good for? Absolutely everything!

6 April 2018

Coffee.
How does it work?
Does anyone really even know?
You’ve probably read it all before…
“Coffee will make you live longer”

“If you drink 4 coffees a day you’ll grow an inch taller in 3 years” or whatever the ridiculous headline is that particular week. We can’t even count the amount of studies presently trying to figure what exactly this cup of goodness does for us, but you can be sure we’ll continue to use any headline as an excuse to justify our love for the liquid gold!

Do you know your mocha from your macchiato?

Do you know your mocha from your macchiato?

18 March 2018

Think we’re talking about a mood when we say flat white?
Or that we’re learning a musical instrument when we mention piccolo?
Well, think again... we’re just talking coffee!

But with so many options on the menu, we know it can get hard to decipher exactly what you’re looking for in your morning brew, so we thought we’d put together this handy little list of the most common coffees. That way the next time you find yourself turning down your music in the drive through so you can think long and hard about whether it’s a mocha or macchiato morning, you’ll know exactly what you are ordering - and can avoid those forehead stress lines too!

What makes a good coffee?

What makes a good coffee?

10 November 2017

As you might expect, we’ve drank a lot of coffee in our time.. so we think we’re vaguely qualified enough to say not all coffee is created equal.
Coffee can vary wildly in its flavour, all because of what happens even before the pour – from the bean selection, roast, grind, water and brew method.
And that’s before we even talk about humidity, tamping, timing, and steaming…
So what, you might ask, is really behind a good cup of coffee?
Well, while we can’t give all our secrets away, we thought we’d share what’s going through the heads of your local TFL team as they make your morning brew..

Why coffee?

Why coffee?

4 October 2017

Coffee has quite the history with its origins dating back to the 10th century in Ethiopia - and possibility even earlier with a number of reports and legends surrounding its discovery.
What legends you might ask?
There’s the one about goat herder Kaldi who is said to have discovered coffee after he noticed that after eating the berries from a certain tree, his goats became so energetic that they did not want to sleep at night. From there he reported his findings to the abbot of the local monastery, who made a drink with the berries and found that it kept him alert through the long hours of evening prayer – and word spread from there.
Another account involves the Yemenite Sufi mystic Ghothul Akbar Nooruddin Abu al-Hasan al-Shadhili. Who, while traveling in Ethiopia, the legend goes, observed birds of unusual vitality, and, upon trying the berries that the birds had been eating, experienced the same vitality.
… and that’s just two of them!
