Why mums love coffee!

Why mums love coffee!

5 May 2019

How often have you heard something along the lines of “This Mum runs on coffee”? If you had a dollar for every time right?! As we head towards Mother’s Day, it got us thinking about Mums and coffee – and why they love it and need it so much…

A 2018 study by sleep technology brand Simba, reckons that in the first year of a baby’s life, parents get 4 hours and 44 minutes broken sleep on an average night. When you add that up – you’re losing 50 nights of sleep in total!

64% of mums say they are amazed they managed to function as well as they did on that lack of sleep. We all know how they managed it – the magic elixir that is a cup of coffee!
When we were looking for the stats on how much sleep Mums lose with a new baby, we found some observations from a couple of Mummy Bloggers that we loved:

We were a little chuffed to have our founder, Paula Anderson, featured in this weeks Dubbo Photo News.
Paula was interviewed as part of the 'Dubbo Works' section which profiles local business people and their careers. It's a great little piece and we love the story Paula tells of the ups and downs of building The Fastlane Franchise, plus she shares some info on where we are headed next. The full interview is attached or head to the Dubbo Photo News website to find out more!

Here at The Fast Lane we love being part of all the communities we call home. We also like to give back where we can, and we’re so happy to tell you about our newest local initiative. We’ve partnered with the Black Dog Ride across all our locations, to help start a conversation about depression and suicide.

We wanted to start things with a bang and have kicked off the 12-month initiative with a $2500 donation. You’ll start to notice our staff wearing Black Dog Ride bandanas and badges, and the special BioPak biodegradable cups we told you about last month have started to appear in stores with Black Dog imaging on them.

We want to get you talking – we’ll be sparking conversations about mental health and suicide, and encouraging people to reach out and chat to someone when they are struggling.

Guilt free coffee!

Guilt free coffee!

19 March 2019

You might have heard recently that in Hobart they are looking at becoming Australia’s first place to ban single use plastics. It got us thinking about what the public reaction would be if the same thing was introduced into NSW and QLD.

Did you know at The Fast Lane we are already well ahead of our time when it comes to environmentally friendly packaging? Yep – when you get one of our coffees, you’re getting it in a BioPak cup that is compostable, and a lid that this is recyclable!

Hello coffee, goodbye kilos!

Hello coffee, goodbye kilos!

8 January 2019

Praise the lord and pass the coffee, our New Year’s resolutions are officially achievable. Why, you might ask? Well, a nutritionist has gone on record with the news we’ve been patiently waiting for – coffee can in fact, help you lose weight.

Published in the UK’s ‘The Express’, Nutritionist Sarah Flowers said the coffee can help you slim down because it is capable of boosting your metabolism.

“Your daily cup of coffee can boost your metabolic rate, but stimulating thermogenesis, helping you in turn to burn more fat,” Sarah was quoted saying.

Coffee… it is good for everything!

Coffee… it is good for everything!

4 December 2018

December has arrived and that means our favourite season is here - hello, Christmas! Filled with friends, family, food and plenty of festivities, Christmas is something truly special… but would it really be complete without coffee?

We created an extra special list last year on what to buy the coffee lover in your life for Christmas, but this year we wanted to share with you something you can make them, that even includes our signature beans.

Yes, if you didn’t know already, our beans can be purchased from our sites to use at home too. And once you try this super indulgent cake (with coffee!) you’ll be left searching for your keys. Why? Because you’ll need to zoom through our drive-thru ASAP to snap up some beans and make this mud cake to end all mud cakes.

Maryborough, we’re on our way!

Maryborough, we’re on our way!

30 October 2018

Maryborough locals will soon be deliciously caffeinated by The Fast Lane Drive-Thru Coffee and we’re so excited to open our drive through lane in early December. Before venturing to the sunny Fraser Coast, we didn’t know the extent of the colourful history here at Maryborough – from being named after the river that runs through (which was named after Lady Mary Lennox who then died in a coach accident just months later) to the birth place of the author of Mary Poppins, you’ve got some stories to tell Maryborough and we’re eager to listen!

We’ll be able to confirm the exact opening date soon, but you’ll then find us at 302 Alice St, serving coffee on the daily. But where did this whole ‘Fast Lane’ start you may ask? And just who is behind it? Well, we thought we’d do a little Q&A to introduce you to our Queen of Coffee (and TFL owner), Paula Anderson.

Ever wondered where the concept of drive-thru came from?

Ever wondered where the concept of drive-thru came from?

4 October 2018

While we’d love to take credit the wonderfully convenient concept, drive-thru actually dates all the way back to 1947… and that was a little before our time!

But how did it start? Well, with World War II still in the air, carhop service for drive-up restaurants serving burgers and other fast-ish food was taking America by storm. But it wasn’t until 1947 that the first drive-thru opened at Red’s Giant Hamburger on Route 66 in Springfield, Missouri. However, Red’s closed three decades later, so the longest-running drive-thru is the original In-N Out Burger which opened in 1948 in Los Angeles. And yes, it was based on the unique concept of a drive-thru hamburger stand using a (then) state-of-the-art two-way speaker box.

Now really, what can’t coffee do?

Now really, what can’t coffee do?

11 September 2018

Call us biased, but we’ve always thought that there’s a little bit of magic in coffee - it’s the skip in your step, your get-up-and-go, that afternoon picky-me up… but did you know that coffee is good for more than just waking you up in the morning? Used coffee grounds are great too!

The list of amazing uses of grounds continues to just grow and grow, so we thought we’d compile of a few of our favourites, so you can enjoy your coffee again – even after you’ve finished enjoying your morning cup of Joe!
